Elden Jay Robertson

I'll get some better pictures in the future, but here is a picture of a picture. The nurses last night took a picture and printed it out for me to show to Ruth. Ruth then had the great idea to take a picture of it with the web-cam. So, here it is:

Elden Jay Robertson
Born 11 March 2009
Columbia Missouri
Born @ 7:17pm (28 weeks and 3 days)
2 lb 9oz / 15.25 inches long

Another picture of a picture:

By the way, I just saw him and he doesn't have the tube in his throat anymore and he's not even on oxygen anymore. Pretty good!

Hopefully Ruth can see him this afternoon.

Whoa whoa, is this YOUR little guy? You had him!? Last I read he would have a 90% survival rate IF he was born this early, but still it was really early and just a first goal to make it this far still carrying him. How are you and how is baby and how did it all transpire?

Ok so I have read my e-mail since checking your blog. That is CRAZY that he's already here! But I'm happy for you that everyone seems to be doing well.

Wow! What a cutie! The picture makes him look pretty big for being only 2lbs 9 oz! Hope Ruth and Elden are doing well today!

As soon as you can I want to see a picture of sweet Elden with someone holding him so I can get an idea of his size! I've never held a baby that small!!!!! CONGRATS (again).

My nephew was born at 28 weeks at almost the same weight and size. He's now a very rolypoly 8 month old who you could never tell was that early of a preemie. We send our prayers for lots of good growth for Elden!

Congratulations! I know you wanted to hold on a little longer, but it sounds like he's doing well now that he's arrived. I'm very happy for you and your new addition, and although I'm sure you'll do great, we'll keep up the prayers. :-)

Congratulations, wow he is really tiny, but also really cute. I'm glad he is doing well, and we'll keep you in our prayers and hope all continues to go well. It's funny because I actually had a dream last night that you had your baby and now I read that it's true, go figure. Babies really are little miracles.

Congratulations! I'm glad he made it to 28 weeks (your first goal). You've had a long road. Hopefully it won't be too long before you can go home and things can get back to normal... or as close to it as possible. Hope the little guy is doing well.

Congrats Ruth and Lee! I am guessing everything went ok. He is so tiny, but pretty long for such a light weight. So, was there any complications? From the sound of it Elden is a little fighter and anxious to be in the world. You are still in our prayers.
In comment to the previous posting - I remember when I was in the hospital, Brynne only visited once and with all the time I heard how much she was missing me, when she got there she didn't want to stay very long. I guess the combination of not much to do and the wierdness of seeing mom in bed doesn't suit little ones. Well, I hope now you will get to go home soon with Elden. How long will he have to stay in the hospital?
P.S. Yes, we are lucky to not have to change the clocks semi-annually. I just have to remember which time zone my family is on when I call them.

Congrats on the new addition. I hope his NICU stay is very short with absolutely no 'NICU setbacks'. Keep us updated on when he gains weight, starts nipple feeding and anything else! Ruth - Hopefully you heal very quickly. Get up and move as much as you can without overdoing it. You'll heal faster from your c-section.

Oh, tell us the whole birth story when you have time.
A minute ago I thought about how you must be excited to go home in a few days, but then the distance from the hospital came to mind. Is there a hospital close to home he can be transferred to when he is able to go to a regular nursery? I have way too many questions popping around my mind. I'll stop now. Sorry.
It's great to hear he is off the CPAP already! Steroid shots rock!

Oh my goodness! Congratulations! I am so happy your little guy is off the ventilator! It is so amazing at how just a few weeks more inside makes them so much stronger when they get outside! I will be praying for you!

I noticed Lee has an army uniform on. Is this national guard or active duty? My husband is active duty army and we are getting ready to be stationed at Walter Reed in DC.

Wow, he looks bigger than I thought he would be. He really looks good and pink. You are so lucky to have him. What a miracle. A friend of Alan's from dental school had 4 bros and sisters all born at 28 weeks. They are all very smart, tall and healthy. I know your baby will be too. We love you.

Congrats on little Elden's arrival! The next few months are going to be hard, but I'm so grateful that you were able to make it to 28 weeks. I think it's amazing that he's not even on the vent... Laurie was on the ventilator for a month! You are in our prayers.
