England-The caravan resort in Weymouth

Friday morning we headed to England!  I purchased round trip tickets from Dublin to the Gatwick, England airport for $50 each.  I should have bought them sooner as when I initially looked they were only about $35 I think.

For breakfast we ate stuff we had on hand...like Irish butter and sourdough bread. YUM!

Oh and you know, chocolate covered waffles that are donuts.

In England!!!

We rented a car through Turo.  Another 6 passenger mini-mini van type thing!  This vehicle wasn't as nice as the one in Ireland, but it was cheaper to go through Turo than through a rental place at the airport.  And a guy met us right at the airport for the drop off. We loaded up our stuff (we were squished!) and headed to Weymouth, about 2 hours away.  It was still weird having someone sit in the front left...with no steering wheel!

Wow, I haven't seen places so packed since COVID hit. The beach in Weymouth (and the Dublin airport!)

We stopped at a store Walmart owns, Asda.  We looked around for awhile and finally decided to buy lunch at the little cafe upstairs.  I didn't know they made a game calle Elden Ring.

The Queen's Jubilee weekend!

There were so many fun things at this store.  I could have had a suitcase just to bring home purchases full of stuff from Asda! Though I would not have brought home any garden gnomes.

The mugs were so fun!

I'll show the "caravan" we rented in a moment.  We found the caravan place, Haven Resort, and checked in.  Shanna's duvet cover had kid throw-up on it.  Really gross. I went to get that fixed. While Lee was taking a nap (we left our hotel in Ireland at 1:00am and he drove most of the way) Shanna and I headed out on our own to another grocery store to stock up for the weekend and buy things like soap and hand towels. Those things were not provided at the caravan. The vehicle we rented was a stick shift.  We were a bit accustomed to driving on the left.  The stick shift was also on the left--but actually not too weird for driving. It shifted the same way as in the USA. The clutch wasn't very strong though.  We were on a slight hill with the caravan and I had a hard time getting the gears to catch so I could drive forward instead of rolling backwards. One time I had to get out and let Lee drive forward (though not at the caravan park, just some random place). Anyway, Shanna and I set off on our own for an adventure.  Very fun! We were at the store for quite awhile and had fun shopping.

The rental.

They have so many fun shelf stable things at European grocery stores.  And I loved this instant BBQ!  Brilliant!

Giant Skittles!

Friday was kind of a break/catch up day.  Some of the kids played at the park later on and I did laundry.

The inside of the caravan!  We played scum a lot.

I love it...washing up liquid.

Can't get enough wrestle time with Dad.  So the caravans are just trailer homes. They are like time shares though.  You can buy them or just rent them from the company or a private owner. Or buy them and rent them to others (like I said...from a private owner). There is a nice "clubhouse" with an arcade, restuarants, indoor pool, etc. Outside there are parks and a pools.  Probably more.  The amenities vary from park to park. But it was nice to have some room to spread out and be noisy if we wanted. Plus we had a little kitchen. Oh and on my way back from the grocery store I almost hit a Land Rover. Oops. In a round about. Okay, I thought I took pictures that night of the caravan, but didn't.  I think there are more further down.

Next up, Saturday! First we headed out to the Durdle Door.  We loved seeing the thatched roofs.  Wow, what an art form!

We walked to two places.  This was the first area, near the Durdle Door.....but about a mile away.

Then the Durdle Door! This is the reason why we picked this place.  A fun, natural piece of art!

Glad I don't need strollers but I thought this was fun.

This was a fun place to just climb around.

Need to stop at the gift shops!

And "find" fossils.

We walked a little around the area by Lulworth Castle.  Though not sure what it was called. Lulworth?

Inside the Doll House.  Super cute!

Next stop was to Corfe to see the town and the castle ruins!  Very cool.

Lunch at the Fox Inn!

A church in Corfe.

If you sit at the right spot at the Fox Inn you get a view of the castle.  Sadly, that was not us!  But when we got our food (we had to pick it up) we walked by a great view.  Funny story, we wanted to order water and some lemon-lime soda.  We asked if they had Sprite or lemon-lime.  They said they just had lemonade. We weren't going to get some, but decided to go ahead.  It was lemon-lime soda!!! Later we went to a store and we saw "lemonade"!

Because a statue with a bird perched on top just needs to be captured in time.

We eventuall headed back to Weymouth after some driving around trying to see some castles. We stopped for some ice cream in Weymouth.  We checked out the sand building art.  WOW.

That night was arcade night at the clubhouse!  Cal took his coins and changed them out for smaller coins...basically he had an ice cream cup full of "pennies" or whatever they were.

Yum. Fun treats!

We did another run to a store for crossaints for Sunday!  So good.
