The sad day came....time to leave Europe. Wow, what a trip! I hated the thought of just flying home on the last day, so Lee and I planned out one more stop. We decided to go to Bergamo, about 45 minutes from Milan. Yep that require a really early morning...like 3am leaving Rome. Something like that! Bergamo has an older part of town up a hill or mountain that you can access by a tram. This blog that I was reading instructed to navigate to this one cafe and from there you could get the tram to ride to the top part of the old city. Well....when we parked and walked to the cafe, we WERE in the old part of the city that was higher up. We found the tram place where you could ride up even higher, but we didn't have enough time. The bakery was fun. Polenta is known as the "City of Polenta". These little cake things are made with polenta.
A cute town to walk around! And we found a Bartholomew sign!
Clark was smart and bought a hearty sandwich at the cafe. We didn't have time to stop for lunch and went straight to the airport.
Our little schedule for the trip that I made for everyone.
It was kind of annoying....the British Airways app wouldn't let me check-in online on my phone. I wasn't sure why because it worked on the way to Milan. And the airline already had our passport info. The frustrating thing is that I knew we'd have to wait in line at airline counter with other people checking bags. We decided to consolidate some stuff while we were waiting in line. We had folded up duffle bags for extra stuff. Even though we had free checked bags, we didn't use it on the way out because we knew the vehicle rental would be really small, and it was. Haley and Shanna shared a carryon suitcase. And then the rest of us, them included, had backpacks.
Also while waiting in line I enjoyed the chocolate star crackers and the spray cream. I never refrigerated it and it seemed totally fine! Oh and the night before the kids popped open all of Elden's Fanta sodas. At this point we didn't think we'd be checking any bags, so they wouldn't get through security on a carryon.
Once we got to the counter, we had an amazing surprise...which at the time we didn't know how cool. We were upgraded to World Traveler Plus on the way home. I told me kids we'd probably get a little more legroom. We did find out that we were on the TOP of a DOUBLE DECKER AIRPLANE! Okay....SOOOO COOL!!!!
Then we got on the place and realized we were seriously upgraded! I have no idea why! Oh, and we did check some bags while we were at the checkin desk. So that was nice. We don't have a credit card with them and have actually never flown with them. And they updgraded ALL of us!!! Lee and I, then Haley and Shanna got to sit by ourselves. Just two people in a little row. And the boys all got to sit by themselves in the middle in a row of three. A attendant was handing out glasses of juice, water and wine before take-off. We got a toiletry bag with an eye mask, lip balm, pen, toothbrush, toothpaste and socks!!! Shanna and I had the window seats so we had this huge storage bin next to us. The legroom and reclining room was AMAZING! I could do really long flights like this all the time!
The food was so fun. We even received hot white, dampened towels to wipe our hands before the meal.
That was a cool experience and such a fun cherry on top of this trip!!!
That was a cool experience and such a fun cherry on top of this trip!!!
We arrived home about 10pm and saw the base of our future garage addition!!!
Our trip....if you can read it!
Time to enjoy the Virginia outdoors!
Also while we were gone, a new window was installed in the basement! YAY! It was so expensive...But now we can use the basement as a 3 bedroom rental!
We had some amazing watermelons from our garden this year. I didn't know we could grow such great melons!
A classic....
Haha, this is one of the towels we got with a McDonald meal.
Sunday Legos...just like when they were young!
Dobby is getting some miles on it!
I am not sure....maybe a dump truck is outside?
Shanna made an amazing blueberry lemon cake!
Julie Hensley was a guest at my rental and left me the book she wrote! I messaged her, not realizing that the author of the book had the same name as my past renter. I asked her if she'd like me to mail her this book she left behind. Then she told me she left me a copy! So sweet!
Exciting times!
We went to Tots for some ice cream. Brittany and Katherine joined us for a little goodbye visit before the girls left for college.
Just because it's sooo goood!
Hard to tell, but they are pouring the foundation!
Elden and Clark assembling side tables for me for the new bedroom.
All poured!
Haley made biscuits and gravy one day before we headed to Utah. Super yummy!
