Massanutten Mini-Vacation

Back in February Lois, Jeff, Lee and I and families did a timeshare tour to get a "free" 2-night stay and "free" waterpark tickets.  I think I mentioned it on the blog.  The tour was fine till the very end. So much for the supposed no-pressure-no-obligation tour-HA!  There was no way they could convince us to purchase a timeshare though.  We did this tour because of my original desire to go to the Great Wolf Lodge during the winter.  After looking at prices for a family of seven, plus having to take time off of work, I wasn't as optimistic about the Great Wolf Lodge.  We do need to go sometime though.  It sounds really fun!

A couple of weeks after New Year's,  I realized that we could do this timeshare tour and get free waterpark tickets and still have a little winter get-away!  My friends own a timeshare at Massanutten (a resort about 10 minutes from my house) and a few years ago told us about the tour and "free" gifts.  After we did the tour I called to book our stay in February but found that we had to wait before we could schedule one.  At first we were going to book at stay during spring break, but the receptionist warned me about the crowds at spring break, so we scheduled it for the week after.

The time finally came for our little mini-vacation and we were quite excited about it.  That day I did copies at the school.  Some kids and a teacher left me some cute notes and gifts!!! I think it was volunteer appreciation week. So kind and thoughtful!

We checked-in on a Thursday night at Massanutten.  I thought they would give my family two adjoining hotel rooms.  We were pleasantly surprised with a whole house!  More like two condos I guess, but we got both of them! The kids were pretty excited and didn't mind at all waiting while I was checking in... It was so cute hearing them chat excitedly about the upcoming vacation.

Here is the "house".

Yes, this is the second kitchen. There were four bedrooms, three bathrooms and two living areas.  It was bigger than our house! (Which isn't hard, our house isn't that big...1700 square feet if you were wondering.)

Friday morning Lois and I worked out, and Lee took the kids to school.  They were there a 1/2 day, then I pulled them out.  After lunch Lois and I took the kids swimming.

Blake has awesome camera poses.  It may look like I just caught him looking away, but this is definitely a "pose" for the camera.

That night we attended a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for a week-long camp for the young women in my church (ward).  The fundraiser part came after the dinner where the young women and whomever else donated items, baked goods, and services for an auction.  It was really fun!  I love auctions!

The next morning we were off to the water park!  Lois and Jeff had plenty of tickets for the water park, and gave us one (thanks!).  But we were still short one.  Shanna had the fantastic idea to pay for a kid instead of an adult.  So we used all the free tickets on us and paid for Blake, my nephew.  He was the cheapest ticket.  Thanks Blake!

I've been to the water park during the free days that the kids enjoyed through the library summer reading program.  It's always PACKED when we go on those free days.  It wasn't too bad when we were there, and was AWESEOME when we first arrived. Sadly Massanutten won't be doing free waterpark days this year, so I am glad we went! It's such a fun water park; and really, once a year is plenty.  We enjoyed the lazy river a lot that day.

For lunch we had random snacks and bagels, and bought some fries.  They disappeared fast! You can't bring your own food into the waterpark, so we ate outside by/on the sidewalk.  A couple of the kids thought that was weird, ha ha.

The "fake" hottub.  It was warmer water than the other water places but not a true hot tub.  The real hot tub was for people 18 and older.  And it was HOT in the hot tub!  We adults spent a few minutes in the hot tub.

They have a "flow rider" thing at the waterpark.  They kids enjoyed going on it and doing a couple of tricks.  I told them to go earlier when the line was short but they didn't want to.  Of course they went later when the line was pretty long.  It looks pretty hard too!  Especially to keep your balance and stay in the middle.

Apparently there was a fundraiser that day for something......you could buy a duck and it would be entered into a race in the lazy river.

I might have to try this ride sometime.  Lee did this time around.

Clark did a really cool move where he pushed the board away from him, rolled over and then the board came back to him (like a boomerang-ish effect).

We cleaned up at the waterpark and hit up a local BBQ place that we'd never been to before--Log Cabin BBQ.  It was really yummy, and fun!

After our wonderful stay that weekend, we actually want to do another tour to get another free stay!  From what I've heard you can do a timeshare tour once a year.  Next time we'll have Clark babysit the kids, and the tour should be shorter too since they will know we've already been on one.  Yep, we're crazy.  We had a great time and enjoyed having Jeff and Lois and co. with us!

A few other happenings around here...Lee bought a couple of glider planes which the kids are really enjoying.  For a family home evening game one night Clark had us go to the park to shoot off glider planes.  They competed to see which plane stayed in the air the longest.

I recently did little touch-ups around the house that I've put off for a few months.  Lots of family visited for Shanna and Haley's baptism and it was a good motivator for me to organize closets and get little house projects done.
April 22 2015 (3)

I created some simple baptism invites for Lee and the girls and I to hand out to friends and neighbors.  Shanna wanted to be in the middle of the action!

This should probably be its own post, but Cal earned his Bear!  Way to go Cal!  The cub scout leaders did a fantastic job at the recent Blue and Gold Banquet.
April 22 2015 (6)

Clark has been in 11 year-old scouts for almost a year now, but they had him "cross-over" into scouting.  He is quite the entertainer and wanted to add his own flare, ha ha.
April 22 2015 (7)

So far he really enjoys scouts and has a fantastic scout leader. Can't believe he'll be 12 soon!
