Day three took us to Costco and the Polynesian Cultural Center. We got off later than we should have but decided to go to Costco to get Shanna some contacts so she could see better the rest of the trip. Lee had to fax over the prescription from his office to Costco in Honolulu. And sadly they would not give Shanna some trials to wear, even with Lee being an eye doctor. Lee would have done that for someone.
While waiting at Costco, might as well get a treat!
Love the street sign!
Cal and Elden did not want to go to Costco that morning and wanted to go to the beach instead. I probably should have stayed with them and let them go to the beach but I just wanted us to stay together. They were pretty sad about it. On the way back we saw that there were some turtles out at Turtle Beach! We found an awesome parking spot and ran over to see some turtles. So fun!
After lunch and changing we headed to the Polynesian Cultural Center. It was amazing! We should have arrived at 11:30 and figured out a game plan for the the afternoon. Oh well. We arrived about 12:30 or so and wasted time trying to figure out where to go first. At the PCC you can visit each Polynesain island. They each have a presentation, crafts and activities to do at each country. We stopped at Samoa. It was super cool and they told us also about many uses of the coconut tree. We also ran into Lee's childhood friend, Wendy Young.
Making a fish out of palm leaves.
After that we waited to watch the river show. The ice cream/sorbet stuff was refreshing but kind of weird too, ha ha.
The kids made a hook for a necklace at another country...can't remember....oh and Shanna got the headband at Samoa. So fun.
We also went on a little canoe ride in Tonga.
Our buffet/luau started at 4pm, so it made it tricky to see the other
countries. We missed going on the long canoe ride which I really wanted
to do.
After dinner we finished going to the different countries, stopped briefly at each one. Here we did spear throwing. I made mine strike the ground on the first try!
They fished as well.
I found out on Sunday that sister missionaries at the visitor center also serve at the PCC. When we were at the PCC I found out that senior missionaries served there as well. So cool! Like these sisters who served in the quilting shop. Love the Hawaiian quilting style.
Some of the kids got a fake tattoo as well.
Clark had fun in the ukulele store. This guy was a senior missionary over the store with his wife. Clark's future senior mission!
Clark took a picture of this kid at the PCC that he thought was so cute. And Clark thought he was so cute that he put the kid on the home screen for the white phone. Too funny.
Pretty amazing flowers in the restroom! I had to make a weird pose for the restroom, haha.
On our way to the evening performance, Ha, the Breath of Life.
They had fun throwing flowers on this statue. Another cool thing about the Polynesian Cultural Center is that the BYU students work there to pay for school, and the money earned by the PCC is also used for scholarships.
Ha, the Breath of Life was a fun performance. We really liked the fire dances they did at the end. Very cool! We couldn't take any pictures of the performance. We did like our seats though. But if we would have booked the PCC sooner we could have had even better seats. But we did enjoy the ones we had. It was a long day, but very fun.
