Our second full day was Sunday. We happened to pick a rental house right by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church building, the Laie, Hawaii Temple and the Polynesian Cultural Center. The Kahuku chapel was only about 4 minutes away. Church was at 8am which was awesome. I'm not sure if this is all true, but it seems like Hawiians are early risers. It's dark by 8:00pm, but the sun doesn't come up super early, but does come up about 5:30am or so. When we are on vacation we go to all three hours of church. It's the place to be on vacation!
The kids had a nice time in primary I think and even got some popsicles.
I received this in Relief Society! YUM! A couple other things...we FROZE in sacrament meeting, we had fun seeing young men and some other men in Lavalavas, and met a nice couple from Utah. Clark had a great time as well and even wanted to go to the youth activity that Tuesday.
Right after church we went to the Laie Temple grounds and the visitors' center.
We saw the couple from Utah and they took a couple pictures for us.
We found out that a flower in the left ear means you're married, and a flower in the right ear means you're single.
We ate lunch and actually went back to the visitors' center again and watched a fun movie about the history of Laie and then a Meet the Mormon's segment.
That afternoon we took a walk on the beach. And the kids played....oops. But what do you expect when you take kids to a beach....
That evening we had ice cream and talked with some of my family on google hangouts. It was a relaxing Sunday.
Monday was beach day! First stop, Turtle Beach (Laniakea Beach). Though we didn't see any turtles.
Next up, Shark's Cove. The kids had makeshift snorkeling gear and enjoyed trying their hand at that. It was a good snorkeling place.
Cal enjoyed making several rock cairns on this trip.
Banzai Beach was our last beach for the day and we stayed there the longest. First we stopped at a local grocery store for a few treats and some water.
The waves weren't super huge, but the kids enjoyed them and the beach was practically deserted.
Sand fun!
There was a cool path to and from the beach alongside the main road.
We had another late lunch and then headed to BYU Hawaii. We won't get to BYU in Provo this summer, so it was fun to go here instead. The campus is cute, and small. We walked around a little and visited the bookstore of course!
From BYU Hawaii we walked over to Seven Brothers. Wow, yummy hamburger! Shanna and Cal wanted Subway.
We had fun watching the chickens run around.
We walked back to get our vehicle.
Lee took some of the kids back to the beach for a little while. Why not when it's a 7 minute walk?!
