Ireland-Donegal & Slieve League Cliffs (Sliabh Liag Cliff) & Breaffy House Hotel

Day 3 in Ireland we started out with breakfast at the Silver Birch.  It was fun because they had food out but then they also would take your order for hot food items like eggs, sausages, rashers (their type of bacon) or potato cakes.

I got some potato cakes.  I liked them!

We then headed to Donegal to poke around and see the Donegal Castle. Built in 1474!

Somewhere up here was their version of an indoor outhouse.  Apparently they thought the fumes from the waste were good for their clothes with disenfectant properties.  EWW!  The stentch alone is horrible.  How, just how? Then they would angle the shoot where the waste went down so archers couldn't shoot arrows up the shaft.

Quite the castle...not cozy!

You can see the part on the left was destroyed by fire and never rebuilt.

Town of Donegal!

Next we headed to the Slieve League Cliffs.  So amazing! And sheep!

We drove through a little cemetary on our way to the next place.

We then drove quite a while to our next and last stop. the Breaffy House.  We should have found a closer place to the airport, but never did.  I think we were going to be seeing something on the western side of Ireland, but didn't.  The drive was super long.  The estate was pretty neat though!

The Fox Inn

They had mini golf, swimming, a playground, etc.  It was a fun resort type place. This is about 9:30pm at night.

We were 3 hours from the airport and our flight left quite early. Lee took a nap and at about midnight we left.  Getting to the Dublin Airport went great until we were trying to find out where to drop off our rental car.  That was a nightmare.  Though there were signs in English of course, not good signs for where to drop off the car!  We ended up at this backlot place right by the airport.  We kept going and asked a construction worker doing roadwork at the airport. Thankfully he pointed us in the general direction.  Then a blessing I know it, we found the right spot.  We "happened" to turn into some random garage because I thought I saw a tiny sign about a car.  Whew. We had found the right place.  Then the airport was PACKED!  We had no idea that we were coming the same weekend as the Queen's Jubliee.  Though it was Ireland, lots of people still had a "bank holiday".  Meaning I think that banks are closed on Friday and that it's as 3 day weekend.  It was 5am at the airport and after we got through security and were walking by all the shops to get to our gate, we couldn't believe how packed everywhere was.  It just looked so weird after COVID.  And the bar!  The bar was CROWDED.  Do you remember that I said it was 5am?  Craziness.
