Wednesday and Thursday we rented a golf cart. We rented the Slingshot for only one day. The golf cart was so fun. The younger kids drove it around the parking lot and Cal and Clark enjoyed taking turns driving it on the street. Lee and I also went out jogging and walking that morning. We hung out and picked up the golf cart. The breakfasts at Best Western were fun. You could pick a "cold bag" or a "hot bag". In the cold bag there was yogurt, Belivita crackers, juice and I think a granola bar. In the warm bag there was a sausage/egg sandwich that could be heated up along with some juice and maybe some fruit?
I wanted to go to a burger place for lunch but the one I had picked out was closed. We had already parked the golf cart and paid for parking. So we walked around trying to find a place to eat. We stopped at one place but decided not to go there. We stopped at Fogarty's, but should have just walked away and headed to another place. The host was dressed very immodestly. We figured that we wouldn't see her again but she kept walking by our table. Ugh. The manager even came our herself to ask us how we liked being there. I didn't even think to mention the host. I wish I would have. The food was good though!Soon after lunch we headed to the docks for parasailing. While we were waiting Lee signed up him and Clark for a jet ski tour around Key West for the next day.
The boat ride was so fun. And it was awesome to go out on the Ocean. The major downside is that the captain played horrible music. I wish I would have said something to him about it. I talked to the family about it the next day and how we could have approaced that situation and done better. I also apologized to them that I should have asked them to change the music and if they had anything kid friendly. The guys were nice though and parasailing was super fun and quite relaxing. It didn't seem like an extreme sport at all.
The water was so pretty!
Getting our harnesses on for parasailing!
The boys went out first.
Lee, Shanna and Haley went out next. Oh, the guy who hooked us up to the sail talked to me about a picture package. They take pictures and then give them to you on a flash drive. He was talking to me like I was going to buy one. Before we went out I told him that we didn't want any pictures. I'm glad I did because they would have expected me to buy one at the end. They did expect a tip at the end which we had no idea until I saw something on the website I believe. The airboat captians expected a tip as well. We don't mind tipping, but it's hard when you pay a LOT for an experience and then are expected to pay even more on top of that as a tip.
Lee was lucky and went out a second time on my first time.
It was really fun and peaceful up over the water. It would be horrible if one's line broke and you fell into the water.
Some of these pictures might be messed up. We had fun driving around on the golf cart. Love seeing the Highway 1 sign.
A fun night at the beach! Smathers again.
Reppin' the Y in Key West!
Cal was successful in climbing up a coconut tree and getting a coconut!
That evening Lee and Clark went on a jet ski tour around Key West. They both really enjoyed it.
Cal had fun catching jelly fish. I think he got stung too. Ouch!
Some type of crab.
Hmm, not sure what this is... a tooth? Or?
The kids love doing perler beads at Lois'.
The kids each had their own plate with sugar cookies, frosting and candy for their treat. We adults bought ice cream downtown and enjoyed an evening stroll.
When we left Jeff had to jump our battery again. Thankfully we didn't have to jump the battery till after we arrived home. We picked these up in Key West at the grocery store. They were fun, but homemade ones are bettter! Thankfully the drive home went smoothly. We pulled in early morning. The kids had a couple hours of sleep and then we were off and running! What a fun spring break trip!
We didn't tip very much for that experience because I only got $40 out of the ATM. But we didn't feel bad as their music choice was awful.
More pool time!
Our last day we walked down to the "90 Miles from Cuba" buoy.
Next up was the Key West Aquarium. Very smalls, but stilll had some fun sealife.
The kids found these mugs at a connecting gift shop. We went back later in the day to buy them but the store was closed. These are their nicknames, plus a friend and a cousin included.
For lunch we ate at the Conch Republic right by the boardwalk and ocean. I love the huge garage doors that make the space feel open and like you're sitting outside. Fried calamari.....
That afternoon we went to the beach again. Shanna and Clark stayed back at the hotel.
We left fairly early Friday morning to head to Georgia for the weekend. We had been having some troubles with the Suburban battery and Friday morning at 6am it wouldn't start. Lee and I went out to the street to wave someone down, but it was dark out. We walked over to a vehicle with a person in it. Thankfully it was an Uber driver and because of that I'm sure that's why he rolled down his window. We asked him if he could give us a jump. He was going to leave to pick up someone and didn't have cables. We told him we had cables and that we were close--it would be fast. And it was. I never asked what his name was. But we were so thankful for his help and when we said a prayer of gratitude we asked Heavenly Father to bless him with a successful day of work. The rest of the drive was uneventful.
We made it to Georgia!
Saturday we spent a few hours at the beach on Amelia Island.
Sunday we zoomed in to our church and had the sacrament with the Heits. We left that afternoon to return home, driving through the night.
