We had a great trip out to Utah this summer. We've been anticipating this trip for awhile. After the 4th of July at Sam's in Iowa--see a previous post--we headed out that night after fireworks. Daniel, Lena and I all left around the same time. About two hours later Lee pulled over (at midnight) and I asked me if I wanted to drive. I told him no and that we should sleep. So we slept and Lee woke up and drove two hours later. He pulled over around 3:30am and I drove. It's funny because I do not remember having this conversation with him at midnight! I was getting a little stressed because now we were two hours behind everyone. Or so I thought. We actually caught up with Daniel and at some point passed Lena. We met up with Daniel at one of the Little America's in Wyoming. We always stopped when we were little and I love stopping with my kids now. We get an ice cream cone of course!
At one of the Little America's--the one closer to Utah, they have a bison (?) you can climb on. Our rule is you have to climb stuff on your own. We're not helping.
The photos are a little out of order here, but I don't want to switch them around. We pulled in Saturday evening about 6:30. We stayed with Roger and Brittany and loved being there. You guys are great! Sunday evening we met up behind Roger's church for dessert and visiting.
Maggie really liked the ice pop!
Hearing a couple of boyhood stories from Grandpa.
Shanna and Haley can be quite the monkeys....especially Shanna. She and Haley latched onto Sheldon right away!
They almost made a heart!
Lee, Clark, Cal and I went to church with my sister Stephanie. The other kids went with Brittany and Roger. Brittany is the primary chorister and helps the kids at church learn songs. She did a fun activity with songs and mustaches that day.
I don't know why but this reminds me of Magnum P.I.
Selfies my kids took.
I thought this one was very cute of Cal.
And back at the pavilion again behind Roger's church that night.
Maggie at church.
Steph and Maggie!
And back at the pavilion one more time.
The reunion didn't start till Monday so we had a fun day hanging out. That morning I went on a fun shopping trip with Stephanie. She bought lots of yummy things for the reunion. Across the street from Roger's apartment where he used to live (they just moved and bought a house!) there is an awesome park and splash pad. We had fun there with Lena and her family.
Shanna and Kirsten are very good friends. What better friends than cousins?! (Siblings too of course!)
After the splash pad we spent a few more hours at the pool at Roger and Brittany's apartment. We were the only ones there for quite awhile. Made me want to have a pool in my backyard! It was so hot there, so swimming was perfect. Seriously, I love hot summers. It's been cooler than normal here this summer and I do wish it were warmer. Oh well.
We had fun taking LOTS of pictures.
The kids and Roger and Sheldon started jumping through these small tubes. It was so funny!
Ahhh..pools are so great in the summer!
Again out of order but earlier that day when I went shopping I had Maggie with me for a little while at Costco. We had fun taking selfies.
Now on to Day 1! The first day was a BYU/Provo day. We had a great time. I love bringing my kids to BYU! Out in the parking lot by the boadcast building (name?) we saw an actor from Studio C, Adam. It's a BYUTV comedy show that my kids love. He was a little ways away so I didn't try to hard to track him down. Then a few minutes later we saw another actor! James from Studio C. I couldn't just let him walk by. He was parked in the same row as us. The kids loved it!
He was kind enough to let us take a picture.
Next up was the Bean Museum. One of the workers did a live animal show for us which was really fun. The kids really liked it. While walking around we ran into one more Studio C actor, Jason. Hopefully we didn't ruin his museum visit too much. The kids were so excited!
And guess who else we ran into? My cousin Lorena! It's funny because I don't think she knew who I was, being one of the younger cousins. But growing up when I would visit my grandma's house I would look at all the cousin pictures over and over. I asked her if she was Lorena, just to make sure because she definitely looked like her! I told her who my dad was. Anyway, it was fun chatting for a minute!
BYU Campus....a great place to wander around!
This was at the animal show.
Haley took the following pictures of animals catching prey. I think it's funny they have so many "attack" scenes.
Again, more out of order but that afternoon we went to a sweets store in Provo that carries lots of different kinds of candy and lots of different soda. Pop'n'sweets. I bought these for Lois.
More BYU Campus.
I got a cell phone for the first time after I was married, and at BYU. And we had just one cell phone at that! Now here I am 11 years after graduation back with my smart phone, ha ha.
We had a fun lunch and more visiting at the Cougareat. I used to work there--at Sugar and Spice and Taco Bell.
Couldn't resist Roger!
We also stopped by the BYU Museum of Art.
The Forgotten Man. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to take pictures, oops!
Cramming in an elevator.
BYU campus is so gorgeous!!!
We had a yummy dinner at a park. Stephanie fed all of us (45!) several times. YUM!
The last event of the day went drove by the Provo Temple. Lee and I were married and sealed there.
But before we drove by the temple that night, we went bowling at the BYU student center.
It was so cute seeing Elden's face after he would roll the ball.
Sheldon and Ciera humored us by using their student id's to get ping pong paddles and ping pong balls. Lee LOVES playing ping pong. Someday we are going to buy a ping pong table.
Also that day we stopped by the bookstore. It was so fun. I love the BYU bookstore! Since about January or so we've been encouraging our kids to save their spending money for "The Utah Trip". We told them we would match them up to $20 each, of their trip savings. They had fun spending it throughout the trip and at the bookstore too. It was the best trip to the bookstore with our kids. Usually it's chaotic with our kids there, but this time it seemed to go so well. It was really fun. I bought a really cute skirt there, plus a fun shirt for $8! We also bought these dark chocolate covered caramel balls with sea salt....OH YUM. I actually made two trips to the bookstore that day. On the second trip I bought a pound of the caramel balls. They were kind of a lot. Well, while at the park and bowling, they melted all together. Boo hoo! The last day at Roger's, we had put them in the fridge and Lee and I cut up the big mass. They were still delicious, but I was sad that the cute ball form was gone.
Can't wait to go to BYU again next year!
