Happy Halloween! How is Halloween already over?! What a fun weekend. The festivities started a week before with our ward Fall Festival. Friday the 30th our town held it's annual downtown "Hoo Doo". It's always so fun! Usually the Hoo Doo is held on Halloween night. Since Halloween was on a Saturday this year for some reason they moved it to Friday, which I was happy about. We didn't mind going out two nights for trick-or-treating!
Some of our friends met up with us that night-the Evans and the Lambs-along with Lois & Jeff and co.
Shanna was the dog and Elden our mighty ninja!
Lee hands out candy in front of his office every year. Last year he bought some creepy contact lenses. Pretty much everyone does a double take and gets a kick out of them. It's hard to look at him in real life with those contacts!
Haley the witch and Blake the frog!
Waiting in front of the library to see our favorite librarian, Ms. Kim. (And of course get candy!)
The town blocks off the streets for the trick-or-treating, which is really fun. It was a great night too, weather wise.
The garden center in town always has two bonfires and hands out mega marshmallows for roasting. They also grow a giant pumpkin and carve and light it every year. It's fun stopping there!
Another of Lee. He was going to hand out full-sized candy bars this year, but I found a great price on Fruit Roll-Ups at Sharp Shopper. We bought several boxes (about 540 roll-ups). He ran out of roll-ups about 6:30, an hour after the hoo doo started. We'll have to buy more next year!
Clark with his good friend Eric.
Some of us took turns sitting on the great pumpkin.
We even got Lee up there! Well, he hopped up himself.
After the Hoo Doo the Evans and Lois and her family came back to our house. We ate, visited and watched a Studio C video. Later after the Evans left we watched The Ghost and Mr. Chicken staring Don Knots. It's our traditional Halloween movie now!
The next day Stephanie met up with us for some shopping and later we all went to Shenandoah National Park for a hike.
We hiked to Dark Hollow Falls. A pretty, short hike.
The waterfall is fairly big too, which makes it a nice "reward" for the hike. One time I went on a hike in Springville, UT to see the Wadsworth waterfall, or something like that. Anyway, the waterfall, was piddly! Maybe 3 or 4 feet high? Ha ha. Dark Hollow Falls isn't anything like falls in Hawaii or elsewhere, but not too shabby for the Shenandoah area!
We enjoyed a nice hike. Later that night we went trick-or-treating again, which we all enjoyed. Steph and Andy and Maggie came to a few houses with us, then the rest of us drove out to the Lamb's neighborhood (they were with us at the Hoo Doo). Trick-or-treating there was great! Lots of houses had lights on, and the street is nice and quiet. We stopped at one more house in Masanutten. It was funny because the person took a really long time to come to the door. When she did she just handed the kids a whole bag of candy and told them to divide it up. I gave each of the kids two pieces and Lee and I kept the rest!
After trick-or-treating we carved pumpkins. Better late than never. It was fun that we could carve them with my sisters and their families.
Sunday afternoon we took one more walk together near New Market-Story Book trail. A very pretty overlook!
Elden and Shanna weren't very far off the ground, but I angled the camera to make it look like they were high in the air.
We loved having Steph and Lois and their families here that weekend!
Normally the week of Halloween for Family Home Evening we decorate sugar cookies. I ran out of time with lots of house projects (painting the girls' room!) and never got around to it. We finally did cookies the 2nd of November. They were still just as yummy even with Halloween over!
Hope you all had a terrific Halloween!
