Happy 18th: A Cape Charles Anniversary

Lee and I have been married 18 years!  We met when we were 18 and were married 4 years later.  So now we've been married as long as we've known each other!  We headed to Cape Charles for a little get-away and Clark babysat at home.  It's great having an older kid that can do that!

We drove by the Richmond Temple site on our way out.  They made a lot of progress in two weeks!

Haley has been painting some fun things lately.  I really liked this cardinal she drew.

We left Sunday afternoon at Hotel Cape Charles-a cute downtown hotel.

A cute little balcony that sadly we didn't use.

The first morning we went out jogging and saw some of the town.  It's a small town on the Chesapeake Bay. We rented a golf cart from the hotel, which we loved.  The day was cold and windy, so being out in the golf cart wasn't ideal, but still fun.  I jogged a few extra miles and I saw someone that used to work at the elementary school that now lives there, Mary Beth.

The big reason for wanting to go to Cape Charles is a podcast.  I love listening to the Young House Love podcast and heard all about them fixing up a house and a duplex, and then last summer hearing about the renting the duplex to summer renters. We found the "pink house" and the duplex.  They are right next to each other on Peach Street, just one house in between them.  I enjoyed seeing them in person.  The Petersiks have much better pictures on their blog and they do look even better in real life.  We also drove around and found Mary Beth's cute house as well.

We also stopped at the St. Charles Candy Company for some treats and got some fries at a local restaurant to go with the lunch items I brought from home.  We headed out to Savage Neck Dunes that afternoon from the suggestion of the friend I saw that morning.  It was a nice little hike to a little beach area that was quite warm which was nice compared to the blustery day in Cape Charles.

That night we ate at the Shanty.  There is a road just for golf carts to the restaurant which we enjoyed taking.  The wait was an hour so we headed back to the hotel to start watching a movie, then got a text notification that our table was ready.  We rushed back and had dinner.  An ice cream run was in order so we headed out to Food Lion for some Ben & Jerry's.  The movie we watched was pretty dumb and quite ironic considering the title--I.Q. I had never seen it before.  It's been nice watching movies through VidAngel and editing them, which we did for this one.

Our dinner at the Shanty.

The next morning we did another jog, hung out at the hotel reading, then went on a walk at the beach.  I also loved seeing all the beautiful homes.  I love the coastal design.  I also enjoyed seeing the homes that had names. People would also name their golf carts as well. If I ever get a vacation home I want to name it.

We headed out of town stopping at Kiptopeke State Park.  We did a nice hike that had overlooks of the bay.  We saw this insect as well.  Sadly no pictures of the hike.

We snacked for lunch while we drove back towards home and listened to Unbroken-the young adult version.  I had just listened to it and figured Lee would like it which he did.  We took a little detour to play some mini golf at Jungle Golf in Virginia Beach.  I lost pretty badly.

We stopped at our hometown Mexican restuarant and had dinner before going home.  When we walked in the house looked great!  Things seemed to go well for our kids while we were gone and we enjoyed the time away.

We had more friend time at one point.

The last Saturday the Heits and Bartholomews came to hang out before the Heits moved to Georgia.  They were going to Cuba for their first assignment with the Navy, but got reassigned to Georgia. We hiked to the Stony Man Overlook but it was cloudy...very disappointing! The veiw is spectacular there.

Dinner, fire and trampoline jumping to end the night.

The perks of Clark working at Food Lion.  People will leave coupons that they don't want to use, which then Clark can use.  He gets some awesome deals.

Sunday with the Heits. This was our last Sunday for having sacrament at home.  Very exciting that we'll be back to church soon!!! I guess we'll see what happens this winter.  Things can be canceled again, but we'll see.

A couple more random pictures.  I noticed some holes in one of Clark's t-shirts so I had him sew them up.

The last Wednesday of September we were going to take the kids to Cape Charles.  The weather wasn't looking good so we canceled our trip and opened up Lee's schedule.  Sadly the day of the weather was good. Ugh.  We did a couple fun things with the kids that day instead.  We went to Mr. J's Bagels for breakfast and for dinner we got Chinese takeout. I'm sad we missed our little trip because now it's just getting colder out.  We'll try and take the kids there next spring.

Vroom, Vroom

Something exciting happened in September....

We borrowed a trailer from a friend and went to pick something up in Williamsburg.

And we got cash to pay for it.

Lee and I went by ourselves to pick it up. Lee test drove it and decided that it was pretty awesome. I'm sure you can tell... We got a motorcycle!

Lee and I are going to take a motorcycle instruction and driving class the end of October. I don't have a motorcycle, and have no immediate plans to get myself one, but it will be good to get some formal instruction. I used a dirt bike once but it was too big and I fell off.  I can drive a stick-shift which is helpful, but still, I need to learn to drive a motorcycle.

Several things came with the motorcycle as well which was awesome like this cover and two helmets.

So that was the big new for the post.  In other news, the kids had some friends over to play.

Lee has a new piece of equipment at his office--it's called MacuLogix. I guess Elden tested it out one evening.

One of Shanna's first big projects for school was to make an instructional video.  She (per my idea) decided to show people how to change a flat tire.  Lee showed her how with a hands on activity and then Lee recorded Shanna showing others how to make the repair. She did a great job!

She also had to make some art for art class with things at home...

I brought up to some of my sisters about surprising Stephanie on her birthday.  Deb and Lois were uncomfortable going without talking with Andy and they were inferring that I should talk to him.  I didn't want to talk to Andy and they could have talked to him themselves. I ended up just calling Steph and going by myself. But the conversation turned into having a sister's weekend.  Deb volunteered and sent these really cute  packages.

She sent an itinerary of the weekend and some of her "favorite" things--which was the theme for sister's weekend. The package was so fun!  She sent some chocolates too.

Clark kept working on his car with Lee!

They installed the new air filter.

One weekend Lee took Cal and Christian on a young men's campout. They stopped at a gas station in West Virginia and Christian treated Cal to a new flavor of Nesquik.

They camped near Spruce Knob and it was very cold out!  Cal was challened to down a box of Tamales.  Sounds like it was pretty epic.

The next morning they went on a hike.  It was still very cold.

Cal and Christian kept a good pace on the hike.  There were campsites along the way where people could bike in.  They enjoyed a little break.

Looks like a gorgeous hike!  Lee's feet were cold the whole time.  That sounds very uncomfortable!

These were the only people on the hike.  And Cal and Christian were the only young men.  If I would have known that I would have brought our family and gone camping.

Lee, Cal and Christian got a ride down from the top so people could get home sooner. Quite the cold weekend!
